Drag Me (A Rose Is A Rose)

from sire by Jamie Greer

/

about

During the recording of the album, on June 12, 2016, there was a mass shooting in Orlando, Florida that targeted members of the LGBTQ community, killing 49 people and injuring 58 others. Having so many dear friends within the LGBTQ community (and simply being human), I was appalled at the way the media and members of the population would condemn the gay community - well before the attack, during, and sadly, after. I wanted to write a pop song that was also a form of protest - or rather a reflection of the strength I had seen so many of the local gay community endure during such darkness, that they were growing immune to the slander and lies and more determined to fight the stigmas and bigotry than ever before.

lyrics

You can drag me through the paper, that don't mean that much to me
You can drag me through the headlines, but I can do that myself for free
You can drag me through the tabloids, not like I haven't been there before
You can drag me through your TMZ, it doesn't bug me anymore

Cause a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose
Doing well doing well doing well doing well? Yeah it shows
Telling lies telling lies telling lies telling lies I can tell by your nose
That's the way that's the way that's the way that's the way that it goes

You can drag me on the sidewalks, I can live with two skinned knees
You can drag me through the blood stains, there'll be far more after me
You can drag me to the bathroom, whichever one that you assign
You can drag me through the darkness, but I warn you that's where I shine

Cause a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose
Doing well doing well doing well doing well? Yeah it shows
Telling lies telling lies telling lies telling lies I can tell by your nose
That's the way that's the way that's the way that's the way that it goes

You can drag me through the ringer, I'm done crying myself dry
You can drag me over broken glass, but baby I refuse to die
You can drag me over hot coals, but my skin no longer burns
You can drag me from the altar, but love is finished taking turns

Bridge:
I'm sure there will come a time when I am ready to forgive you
But I can't give you dates or even times
Even though I really want to I don't think that I would like to
I need to take some time to find what's mine
I need to take some time to love what's...

Cause a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose
Doing well doing well doing well doing well? Yeah it shows
Telling lies telling lies telling lies telling lies I can tell by your nose
That's the way that's the way that's the way that's the way that it goes
