When my son Jonah was 6 years old, he started making up songs based on what he liked. At the time, it was sea shantys, the movie "Titanic", and Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". He had a little drum kit, a ukelele, and a box of his parents percussion instruments. None of which he was trained in.

But that didn't stop him. He wrote four songs (or rather, his dad captured four songs he was making up), and used the instruments around him. I had him multi-track some as he felt he needed, and just recorded him playing and adding what he wanted. This is the four songs he did in early 2020 as the pandemic hit, with one being an obvious tribute to Lightfoot's song. "Sea Drums" was me just asking him to "play something on the drums".

The fifth track is a recording of him doing a quick verse of "The Wellerman", one of his favourite songs and shanties, that he did at the end of 2022, but somehow it fit the mood.
